Importing data in spreadsheets into the Tags and Drawings libraries together in one step

Import Drawings & Tags

External data available in tables or spreadsheets can be quickly imported into WeldTrace when it is available in a CSV (comma separated values) file and formatted correctly. The system of importing data works the same way across all the areas in WeldTrace wherever you see the "Import CSV" button. This article explains how to import data into the Drawings and Tags libraries together.
Import Drawings
  1. Click here to import drawings;
  2. Click here to import drawings and tags together;

Download the template file

Import Drawings and Tags
  1. Download the template file. This file is in the .csv (comma separated values) format. You can use Excel to edit the file, but you need to save it in the .csv file format;
  2. Once you have entered the data and saved the file, click here to upload it (please read the section below);
  3. The Create button will be enabled after the data has been parsed and if there are no errors in the data (please see below);

Enter data into the template file

Import Drawings and Tags - enter data in csv file
Open the template with Excel or another program that can be used to edit csv files;
  1. Do not edit the header row and do not change the order of the columns. The import process will not work if you make any change to the header row. Ignore the warning to save the file into Excel's format;
  2. Enter the data. Columns A to G are for Drawings;
  3. Data in columns H to L are for the Tags;
  4. Data in columns M to T are to set the NDE requirement for the Tags;
  5. If you need to add a drawing to more than one tag, copy the drawing data into columns A to G from another row and copy the tag data into columns H to T from another row. In this example, the drawing data has been copied from row 2 to row 6 and the tag data has been copied from row 4 to row 6. This will make the drawing number SPMT-ENG-P-DRG00001 Rev. 0 available in the Tags L101 and L102. When you weld map on this drawing, two sets of welds will be created automatically, one set for each Tag the drawing belongs to;
Set Excel to stop auto formatting or automatically converting data into different format by File -> Options -> Data -> Change default data conversion to prevent text from being changed to number, etc.

Upload the csv file

Import Drawings and Tags - data verification
WeldTrace will read the csv file and evaluate the data. If there are any errors a warning message as shown in the screenshot above will appear.  Data that is not acceptable or with some errors will be in red text and highlighted in a red background. In this case, the Create button will be disabled. Data that is acceptable, but there could be some inconsistency will be highlighted but the text will not be in red. In this case, the Create button will be enabled.
  1. The warning message is for inconsistent data or data that is already present. These will be ignored;
  2. Since the first row of data for the Tag L101 contains the Line number, Class, etc, the data presented again in this row for the same tag will be ignored;
  3. The Create button is enabled, which means all the data are in acceptable format;
